Cheesecake Chillout.

Hello! My Name is Beth, I’m one of the trainee youth workers on the Youth-180 team! Part of my job is to work in the Sycamore Tree Bookshop. I serve in the cafe two afternoons a week smiling a lot & trying to encourage more young people into the bookshop. And so came about the exciting new venture that is CHEESECAKE CHILLOUT! Every Friday from 3-5pm the Sycamore Tree Bookshop will be serving a piece of DELICIOUS cheesecake & a cold or warm drink for the BARGAIN price of £1.75… please come along to taste some of the cheesecake or try out our bean bags - everyone is welcome!

So some of us are moving on to bigger and better things! After asking how they felt the year had gone and what they are going on to do, they said this;

Beth - “In July I finish my gap year with Youth-180 and move on to Plymouth Uni to read History, which I'm really excited about. The year has been full of new experiences for me, pushing me out of my comfort zone and I have learnt a lot: being part of a team, working with and between schools and churches.... and how to make a real good cup of tea in The Sycamore Bookshop! I have met many new people and I will miss both them and the people I work with very much.”

Maddy - “So in 5 weeks time I, Madeleine Barnett, will officially have finished my year of all things Youth-180. I came to Youth-180 from a tiny sea side town in Sussex, after having little experience in schools work I realised I wanted to learn more about being a Christian youth worker ... and wow! It has been a year full of schools work and so much more. It will be really hard to say goodbye to students and staff, to the team and to friends at the two churches I have been working in. I have a place at the London School of Theology, to study for a BA (hons) degree in Theology. I am so thankful for the amazing experiences that I have had and cannot wait to hear about the great things God will do through the new team in September 2010!”

Matt Cairns - Matt has been working at Hartshill and George Eliot School. He is a gifted sportsman and has an encyclopedic memory for football. He is looking at going into the Sports industry after Youth-180 and we wish him the best of luck! Matt says, “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Youth-180. I have learned so much in the last year and I have enjoyed working with young people through out George Eliot and Hartshill Schools”.

Sam - Sam has been with us for a few years now at Etone Community School and Heath End Church. He has help to develop the work at Heath End Church and Etone School, both of which have seen him as a real asset. Sam says, “I have been with Youth-180 for over 2 years and is has been a great experience! I have learned a lot, not only as a youth worker but as a person. I am going on to study a Youth Work Degree with CYM (Christian Youth Ministries) in Leicester and Nottingham.”

Matt Barber - “I joined Youth 180 back in September 2007 and worked in Ash Green School. Over the 3 years I have seen God do amazing things in and through me. My confidence has grown so much, along with my passion to to work with young people and to see their lives transformed. It has encouraged me to improve my work and undertake an MA in Youth and Community Work and Applied Theology.  At the end of this year I will be joining Oasis in Enfield, as a Youth Development Worker to run Enfield Island Youth Centre. This is an exciting time for as I head down to London to partner with God in what he is already doing there. Its also a sad time. I will be leaving Youth 180 with some great friends and fond memories and leaving some amazing young people behind. I’m excited for what God will do next year within Youth-180 and look forward to hearing all about it.”
